It sounds like its storming, the lab I am in has no windows, and I left my windows in my car cracked open so it wouldn't be so hot after work. I better go check on that. I don't my seats to get too wet.

Yes, Mri Niun. Somebody did rob me. My university, that's what. In comes the tri-monthly Larceny Festival to welcome students back to school. It's not enough that we dish out a butt load of money for the school itself, then comes the books, which the combined cost of these beauties would pay for the registration for another class. Then it's the parking; not only do I have to pay for classes and books and let us not forget to mention gas (or petrol if you would), but I have to pay a fee for parking. All this money going out would leave me beggared if I also had to pay for living, i.e. house and utilities. So all that frustration is summed up in two words: Highway Robbery.

I'm the same MH, I have to pay tuition, rent, phone/internet, food, tv licence and utilities, so I'm pretty lucky if I have enough left for course books (Oh my goodness how expensive!), or to go home on the odd weekend (to see my boyfriend), or to even get a coffee while I'm on campus! University costs so much, I really want to do a second degree after this one, but I just can't afford it! Which is such a shame.

I completely understand MH and Noonaa. I did a summer internship which was good experience and will look wonderful on a resume, but I got paid noticeably less than my usual summer job. Which meant I had less than I am use to for books, tuition and housing this semester. I also am going to go for a second degree after I finish this, but luckily as a science major I can get paid to go to grad school. That is the only thing that will allow me to go. 

 

Current Mood: Stressed – This is what I get for putting assignments off. I always say I will do better next time, but I never do…

This world we live in makes it almost a requirement to go to college if you want to get a decent job or start a worthwhile career, but *they* make it nearly impossible to do it. I won't go to college if it were actually up to me, but I'm not stupid enough to blow something this important off.

Does everyone else see that odd stuff above my last post? I don’t know what it is or how it got there, but I went to edit my post to see if there was something I could remove to take it out, and there was nothing there....

MH, I really enjoy college. I love to learn and I absolutely love my upper level classes that involve a lot of thinking and problem solving. If it didn't cost so much, I would spend another year getting my undergrad because there are so many classes I wish I could take just for the fun of learning something new.

Don't get me wrong: I love to learn. I love to read and think about ideas. But the way I see it is that I do that on my own time as it is. I'm not in any upper level classes yet, and I don't find them intellectually stimulating. In fact, some classes make me feel dafter than I was before. A whirling vortex of stupidity, if you ask me. But that's just my opinion. We are all entitled of our opinion of the institution, especially since we're putting out so much time, money, and effort. Sometimes I feel like my effort is wasted on rubbish, and I tend to resent that loss of time in my life that I am never going to get back.

Just get through the monotony, MH.  It will open the door for much more interesting subject matter in the future.  At this point, it shows that you can put up with the baloney of adapting yourself to many different teaching styles and subject matter.

Believe me, don't give up on it.  Completing your undergrad is probably one of the most important things you can do now to ensure your future.  I was talking to one of my former neighbors yesterday, who is nearly my mother's age.  After working for the same company for nearly 30 years, she was "downsized".  When she went looking for a new job with a company that she worked with in the past as part of her old job, she was amazed that they went back into the archives of her college to make sure she graduated all of those years ago.  Another co-worker of hers wrote and developed much of the procedures and ran seminars for other companies while he was employed - and couldn't get a job with one of those companies because he didn't have the degree - though possessed a lifetime of experience and probably contributed much of the material that is used in those college classes today.  Keep going - and good luck!
