Ya know what? Everyone is her "grandchild" :)
I think Ashe would be righteously angry if he knew about the needle thing. Not mad at her for TELLING, but just for having done it.
So protecting him wouldn't do much :) Righteously angry suits Ashe.

She didn't even tell him that part, about taking all ten children's pain. I don't know if she told anybody actually.

Re: I never did like this section of the book.
She didn't. She only said it was a trick she learned in the Veil. Only the Lord and Lady of the Veil know what Rhapsody did. I have a feeling that Constantin may have figured it out, as well, but I don't remember why I feel that way, and I don't believe it was ever stated. I think it was just a feeling I had. The younger children never knew, however. Achmed, Ashe, Oelendra, Anborn, Grunthor, Llauron, and probably everyone else that even remotely cares about Rhapsody would have all had a cow if they knew of it. Even Llauron wouldn't have wanted her to do that, and he wasn't above allowing people to feel pain for him.

Have a cow. Heehee :)
Hmm...I don't know about Llauron. He was a bit dragonish lately in that book :D
And no, she didn't tell anyone (I bet Constantin might have known), and that annoys me.

Right? I'd at least like to watch the reactions of people...it might be humorous.

Exactly! Although that might not be an entirely good thing...

Hence the funny ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif) I don't like Ashe very much; he could use the shock.

Re: I never did like this section of the book.
Too much of a bleeding heart for me...in more ways than one. There's a fine line between being open with your emotions and being emotionally unstable.

Re: I never did like this section of the book.
Who, Ashe?
Emotionally unstable?
Aren't they all? I mean, Achmed has a case of sarcasm with ADHD and Grunthor covers it up with inappropriate jokes, and Rhapsody's a girl, so it's okay, but still...

Re: I never did like this section of the book.
Well, Ashe breaks down into tears at any possible opportunity, and the others really don't, so...I think that's where the emotional instability shows itself mostly. He's a crybaby.

Re: I never did like this section of the book.
Yeah, it's okay for men to cry, but not as much as Ashe does. And there is a difference between having emotional baggage, and not being able to control them. Achmed, Grunthor, and Rhapsody have emotional baggage, but they still control their emotions most of the time. Everyone needs some sort of release now and then. Ashe is emotionally unstable; he can't control them very well. I don't blame him completely, because part of it is being dual-dragon personality. But, still...I find it kind of odd that Ashe is so emotional when he came from such a stoic, cold family, a point that Anwyn thought herself in one of the first three books (I think it was the prologue in Rhapsody).

Re: I never did like this section of the book.
Well, I guess it's impossible for me to hate him :)
I think Ashe needs some serious Quiet Time. It seems that a lot of the events end up involving him (of course) and happen on top of each other. There's no space between. Rather emotionally scarring :D

Re: I never did like this section of the book.
How about the Three? Everything happens to them. All those prophecies they have to fulfill, all the people that die in the process....That's emotionally scarring, but they seem to get by all right. Ashe seems to have the tendency to fly off the handle. But, I like I said, it's partly due to being a dragon.

Re: I never did like this section of the book.
I think the Three have a sort of anti-depression thing going. Rhapsody is impossibly optomistic and in slight denial, Achmed has walls, and Grunthor reciprocates with dirty jokes :D
I like "fly off the handle". That makes me picture Ashe propelling himself into a wall in rage :) Amusing!

Re: I never did like this section of the book.
Everyone has their ways with dealing with stuff. Rhapsody is definitely in denial, and that drives me crazy! Walls and dirty jokes are not so bad; it's just redirecting it. "Flying off the handle" can be all right, but not all the time like Ashe does.

Re: I never did like this section of the book.
I think I have main-character tolerance and you don't :D We've been saying basically the same things for the past 10 lines (let me check...pretty much, yes, it was for a lot) I guess I just need to read the next 2 books (probably will happen sometime late May. My birthday.) because with most of the plot for the first 4, everything takes so long that it seems that less happens. So everyone seems to break down less, especially comparing that to the length of say, the Cymrian War...heehee.

Well, now, I don't have to be tolerant about the characters. But what you say is partly true....I just have an intolerance towards Ashe.
