    WOOT!

So do you think this will be a good adaptation, or a bomb in the making?

Did anyone see Stardust this weekend? I absolutely loved it! A few of the major plot points were changed but surprisingly I was fine with what was different. I highly recommend the book as well. It is an incredible read. (Stardust movie)  (Neil Gaiman's website)

Can't believe you've seen Stardust already! We have to wait for ages before it comes out! Not fair *stamps feet*  I didn't know about the book but I've added it to my wishlist in Amazon.

Check out the trailer for Beowulf.
Looks like a lot of fun but I don't know why they bothered to go with animation.

I'm in!  But I agree, I would have liked it without the animation.

    Re: Upcoming & Current Movies

I saw this the other week and it was pretty good. I had my doubts about a realistic CGI movie, but this was really well done and the CGI was excellent (although there were some bits that could be better,) Anthony Hopkins and John Malkovich were instantly recognisable. Men will be very happy to see a pretty much nekkid Angelina Jolie emerging from the water and I must say the scene where Beowolf fought Grendal in the buff was also rather watchable. Surprise [:O] Damn their clever placement of props!

I'm hoping to see the Darjeeling movie this weekend and certainly looking forward to The Golden Compass coming out soon. The trailers just look wonderful. Big Smile [:D]

(I also changed the title of this thread to reflect current films too.)

    Re: Upcoming movies

I'm almost afraid to watch the Golden Compass. It's one of my favorite books, and I'm worried about how badly they'll botch it up... Thus far the only thing I like about it is the actor they got to play Lee Scoresbe, Sam Elliot, he's perfect for the role.

Angelina Jolie got paid 8 million dollars for this movie.  I'm pretty sure her CG counterpart saw zero percent of all that loot.  I'm not sure how I feel about getting paid 8 'mil for a little bit of CG work and using the same horrible accent she used in Alexander.  LOL.

Woohoo!  Now that's what I am talking about.  LOL.  *just joking*

I am so jealous of Duchess's power.  LOL.  And her preemptive move to prevent SIA from making another thread discussing "current films" is very admirable.  LOL.  *just joking*

I am really looking forward to seeing the movie I Am Legend.  I love big budget disaster / end of the world movies like these; Hollywood doesn't make too much of them anymore (you know, like Independence Day, War of the Worlds, The Day After Tommorrow, etc).

The only problem is that I am not such a big fan of Will Smith.  I mean I used to be, but that was before I, Robot.  IMO that was such a bad movie and such a waste of a good story.  At least Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is going to have Christian Bale as the new John Conner.  I like Christian Bale, this movie is gonna rock.

    Re: Upcoming & Current Movies

SIA, I cannot believe you just said that the 4th (What?!? Another one?!?) Terminator movie is "gonna rock". LOL I fear that whatever was good in the first two will be killed, and mutilated beyond recognition in a fourth incarnation of this story line.

And Will Smith rocks!! He was the Fresh Prince..duh..of course he's good. Wink [;)] Anyway, I generally love his movies. But even great actors can make movies that are ho-hum, once in a while. I adore Denzel Washinton, but I hated Training Day. And he won an Oscar for that one. (To this day I am still PO'd about him winning against Russel Crowe in a Beautiful Mind and Sean Penn in Sam I Am. I wonder if the Oscar people even watched either of those movies. Denzel no doubt deserves a dozen Oscars, as he is a fantastic and great actor in my opinion, but that year, for that movie, against those performances? I think not.) He is in one of my all time favorite movies, however. Much Ado About Nothing.  But I digress...

I am actually looking forward to I Am Legend, as well, and not just because Will Smith is in it. It looks intriguing. I would love to see that at the drive in, but they'll probably be closed for the winter before it gets a chance to get there.

    Re: Upcoming & Current Movies

I just finished reading the collection of stories by Richard Matheson which includes I Am Legend.  I'll send it to you, Val, with the others I promised you. I have to go to the post office this week for my Christmas cards, so I might finally get it out to you.

We saw The Golden Compass over the weekend, though I wasn't totally happy with how they condensed/omitted some characters and situations.  The kids liked it and my husband did too, but I guess I'll have to wait for when The Subtle Knife gets released - that one is my favorite of the trilogy.

    Re: Upcoming & Current Movies

I've heard some pretty bad reviews for the Golden Compass, so I will be waiting until it comes to dvd. Such a shame.

On the weekend just gone I went and saw The Darjeeling Limited; it's Wes Anderson's latest quirky and bittersweet movie. It charts the journey through India of three brothers searching for their mother as they attempt to reconcile their relationships with each other and make sense of their own messed up lives. It's a subtle, humerous and poignant film, but probably not everyone's taste. If you liked The Royal Tennenbaums or Steve Zissou then you'll know what to expect. Easily my favourite film in a long time.

I like Will Smith. Will Smith is awesome, SIA, and don't be spreading your lies. ;) I want to see I Am Legend, too. And, I actually liked I, Robot. It's not Smith's best movie, but I enjoyed it. I don't want to see The Golden Compass, though. I've heard some negative things about the movie and the books, so I decided not to spend money on it, in case they were right.

The Golden Compass was alright exept for the fact that they cut off befor they even finished the book. *strangles director, and rampages.* Considering how they butchered H.P., and every other book-turned-movie story line, this one was actually going decently. Until the end... *rampages again*

    Re: Upcoming & Current Movies

Well, considering there is another movie it might be fine in the end, we don't know yet. I expect to lose things when a book is made film.

I just got home from seeing it and I was pleasantly surprised. The imagery was so close to what I had imagined (except for the valley with the hut, of all things - the landscape was too jagged compared to what I expected), I was quite stunned.

Hey Val...I think you meant I Am Sam.  It's okay, SIA would have made a VERY good Sam Dawson in this movie too.  (Was that a cheap shot at implying SIA's intelligence levels are below average?  You bet!  Ahhh, it's good to be back!)

Just kidding!  I may be slightly rusty and different than the AL that you all knew six months ago, but I'm still a little bit "me".  Hopefully I'll bounce back with time...

(and P.S.  Duchess, this thread's only four days old!  That doesn't count as necromancing, right?  *hope*)

On the topic of current movies, I am also looking forward to seeing I Am Legend.  I liked I, Robot.  It had some GREAT one-liners in it.

(I have an affinity for quoting movies more so than seeing them, it seems, so if a movie will give me multiple quotable opportunities, I consider it tolerable.  With the one possible exception being Sin City; I have a couple of great quotes from it, but I think I've only seen part of it, and it looked...odd.)

Oh, and no one's mentioned Transformers???  I just saw that one a couple of weeks ago, and I really liked it.  What a way to tie Shia LeBeouf and technology (ie robots, transformers) together in one post!

    Re: Upcoming & Current Movies

I recently watched a "Current Movie," called: Pirates of the Carribean: At World's End, and I hated it! (Not to be a flamer to anybody who loved the movie, of course I'm just expressing my opinion). But the movie was just, umm, how would you put it? Random?

Yes, that would be it, it was random, VERY random. Nothing made sense, and everything happened so suddenly. It was as if Disney was throwing in every original thing to try to make the movie dramatic and awesome. When the movie just plane stunk, (once again, to me it did, I hate to be offensive >_<) overall, I didn't like it, in fact, I didn't like any of the POTC.

Has anybody watched it, and understand what I mean?

P.S: Nice to have you back, Achmed's Lover! It's been too quiet around here! Big Smile [:D]

Hey, I wasn't lying!!!  I was just spreading anti-Will Smith propaganda.  LOL.  And I just found out that I Am Legend is named after me...  no wait, that's not right.  LOL.  I just found out that I Am Legend is actually a remake of the old Charlton Heston movie The Omega Man.  I saw that movie, and it was pretty bad, good thing the Will Smith remake is getting great reviews.  *phew*  I hate to be disappointed by yet another high-budget Sci-fi bomb (like Battlefield Earth).  LOL.

Ooo...  my Sis-in-law just bought Pirates of the Carribean 3: At World's End (along with The Bourne Ultimatum), so I am probably going to watch it this week sometime.  I'll have to see if your critique is valid or not; if I don't get hypnotized by Orlando Bloom's magnificence first that is.  LOL.
