Ok, so I was wondering if anyone had read the Twilight Series by Stephanie Meyer.
Now, I'm not going to say what I thought of any of the books....yet....I don't really have time for that now....
But I just finished Breaking Dawn and read some of the forums especially for the series and I've heard a lot of bashing and criticizing of Breaking Dawn. Either it was your favorite or it was a disaster.
So from one civilized reader to all of you civilized readers (I say civilized because on the forums I read most people turned from criticizing the book or Stephanie Meyer to directly attacking other forum members, and I think much more highly of everyone here ) I want to know if any has read the entire series and what they thought of it!

I've read almost all the Twilight books except Breaking Dawn, and I use to go on a Forum of the books, and oh man, after a while of posting there I really missed The Cauldron! The spelling, the grammar and the way how they flamed, or bashed at Jacob or Edward was a bit turn-off for me so I never went back since than. ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
I also assume that a lot of them were under the age of sixteen on those forums, and of course, acted that way because of their maturity level.

I have not read the Twilight series but also have heard much about them. I am seriously considering reading them but would like input on what you guys think as to whether they are worth spending time on.

They are a good series, though not the best. They are your typical teenage read.

I hope you like it, Mri! (or hate it--but end up having a reason for it ![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif) )
I read the whole entire series (including Breaking Dawn), and actually, I haven't been on whatever main forum you were in, but participated in a huge discussion of it in another forum, and no-one was quite that way as you describe...
I'm currently rereading Eclipse, and might end up rereading Breaking Dawn while Mri Niun's finishing it ![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif) Who knows, I might even finish it before her...but I doubt that

I wouldn't count on that EL, Mri Niun is swamped with hmwk! ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
I'm at the part when the pack decided to attack the Cullens to kill Bella and poor Jacob is upset.

Wow, I finally finished BD! Took me long enough, and I love the ending!

Lol. I finished re-reading it like 3 weeks ago ![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif) I have a love/hate relationship with that book...example: the end of the ending was amazing but nothing really happened before that (although, it wouldn't be good if more people died...)

I've only read Twilight.... But I plan to read the others sometimes, once I get my hands on them. In fact, I'll go to my library website right now and put the 2nd book on hold.
As for my opinion of them, I thought they were a lot better than the average teen fiction novel--very addicting and well-written for their targeted age group. One thing I found particularly interesting in Twilight was the lack of a goal/conflict for, oh around 2/3rds of the book. As in to say for that part of the book, there was no staightforward goal/objective/problem that she was facing. Unlike most fiction books that say 'Goal is this, problems are this' and the book is describing their overcomings of the obstacles on their way to their goal, this one didn't even really have a conflict until Bella came to watch the game of vampire baseball, or even really a objective. She was never like "This is what I'm going to do and this is how I'm gonna do it" until then.
I don't know, but I, an avid reader and writer of fiction, found that lack-of-goal interesting. And not interesting in a bad way. One more thing that was even more interesting was that there was still suspense and concern before then--it didn't ruin the book, but perhaps made it even better.
Now, off with me to my library's website.
Edit:
Gaaaah 951st place with the book on hold. Oh well, I guess I'll re-read the Legend of Drizzt while I'm waiting... the last 1/2 of the Assassin King won't last me 'til then... and that's assuming that EH's top-notch writing hasn't spoiled me.

I should read TAK again, seeing that the book didn't stick to me emotionally as the rest of the series did. TAK seemed a bit rushed, if you get what I mean, and maybe if I re-read it enough I can notice some things that will make the book more amusing.

You could try Bookcrossing.com, Khaibit. This is the current registered list for Breaking Dawn, and you could search the other titles of the series for their availability, too.![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)

Hmm... interesting site. I'll leave figuring it out until later, but thanks for the link!

Yeah, I do kinda get it. TAK did seem a bit rushed, not slowly weaving intricacies into the plot like most of the previous books. I did like it better the second time around, and it's still very good. And maybe nothing was sticking emotionally because there's not much else that can emotionally happen in the series...? (or at least that I can think of right now) Ha but when I was reading it again I forgot what happened to Meridion after they visited the lost city (the name of it escapes my mind now... Kurimah-mal or something. Time to consult the Dictionary! *a minute later* OK it's Kurimah Milani, I was close) and when I read that part I was just like *blink* . That's the extent that it emotionally impacted me, but we did get to learn a bit more about the Dhracians. Also on that point, I'm not too sure how I feel about the appearance of another Dhracian; my opinion changes with time on that regard.
Anyways... not to sidetrack myself from the thread's purpose... position changed to 659. I have a couple of dozen books to go through until then, and Whit by Iain Banks is next in line. And now that I actually notice, around 60% of the female population at my school carries something Twilight-related. One girl has a poster, one has New Moon, another has Breaking Dawn... never really noticed how popular it was until now.
Edit: Oh dear, here we go again, with me actually physically incapable of writing something under 100 words. I can never write anything short. At least I can single-handedly keep the purpose of editing alive.

![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif) You sound like me in the middle of writing poems. It's torture. I ramble on about stuff for...a huge amount of screen-space...

I've enjoyed reading the Twilight series, but the fanbase it gets upsets me a little. It's an ok book: fun to read a couple of times, but not fine literature. And who should expect it to be? The author wrote it because she wanted to and I'm fine with that. It just creeps me out when I walk through the hallways to my bus and here girls gossiping about whether they're Team Edward or Team Jacob. I wouldn't mind, except it's so frequent, and there's better things that they can be doing or talking about. Also, people who say that they'd want to marry Twilight characters frighten me a little. They may seem perfect, but the flaws these characters have would, in real life, make for unhealthy relationships.
Anyway, verdict=fun read, but not high quality (compared to the stuff I normally read and enjoy, which tends to not go anywhere near teen romance). Twilight was the best of the bunch, but after that, they went a little downhill. It kind of reminds me of superhero movies; the first one is awesome, because you are introduced to the character, you discover the super power through them, and you know that they have to win the conflict. The ones after them aren't always as enjoyable.
Maybe that's a bad metaphor, but my point is Twilight was pretty decent, and Breaking Dawn was not, in my opinion.
