Re: The Dictionary of All Symphony of Ages Knowledge!
Alright everybody! Here is the deal, as Krinsel has already pointed out, I will be editing the Dictionary entrees to white so you now have to highlight them. This will prevent future spoilers but will not entirely prevent printing the Dictionary out for easier reference access. Thank you all for understanding, and thank you Krinsel, V and Rhapsody for pointing this out to me...
Valecynos wrote:
Hi Mri Niun,
A few of the moderators were talking about the "Dictionary" and some of the latest comments that have been posted about it.
We don't want the efforts of your work to go unrecognized, but as you said, this has been a big undertaking on your part, and the way it is posted right now lends itself to some potential problems. As an enhancement, and as a safeguard against "spoilers", we would like to change the "definition" portions of the dictionary to a "highlight only" way to read it. You are probably familiar with this method, which involves changing the text color to white, requiring a cursor to highlight the text in question, like this:
Rhapsody: Amelia Rhapsody Turner, also Emily
We would keep the words and names in regular black text, but each corresponding answer would be hidden until the person highlighted that particular portion. It would also deter, but not totally rule out someone printing out your work as a reference apart from The Cauldron. It would also keep all the hard work you have done up for everyone to enjoy, while hopefully not giving anyone else the idea to print it and possibly publish it on their own.
We hope you understand the changes and reasons why we are putting them in place. If you have any further questions, please feel free to PM me.
Thank You,
The Moderators and Administrators
Seems like a plan to me V/R! I have been wondering about that myself, even while posting the Dictionaries into the Whole Thing Thread, apparently some have been going into them even when they haven't read all the books. I think "whiting," the definitions themselves may help a great deal, though it might take a bit to do so, but not too much of my effort to edit this. Thank you once again for the ideals on that, I will start working on it right away, and let all of you know when I finish it.

Another Note:
This, apparently, has already been done for me by the mods. In the future I will continue this process and anybody let me know if I don't white anything out already.
Once again, thanks for everyone’s efforts on my Dictionaries! You all have been a GREAT help! ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)

Re: The Dictionary of All Symphony of Ages Knowledge!
So just wondering (yes, me being curious ) what does everyone think of my Dictionary thus far? And do you find it beneficial and useful? Do you ever use the Dictionary?
1. How would you rate my Dictionary for The Symphony of Ages series?
* - Not very good, awful, actually, needs to be worked on more! 1 Star. ![Angry [:@]](/emoticons/emotion-12.gif)
** - I don't find it useful at all, its pointless and has a lot of errors. 2 Stars. ![Indifferent [:|]](/emoticons/emotion-8.gif)
*** I like it! I find a lot of your definitions very accurate. 3 Stars. ![Smile [:)]](/emoticons/emotion-1.gif)
**** Its great! Nicely done Mri Niun! You have done a good job and its useful! 4 Stars. ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
***** Awesome! I think you did a great job on editing it and keeping it updated, your the best! 5 Stars. ![Cool [H]](/emoticons/emotion-11.gif)
2. Do you ever use my Dictionary?
[1] No, I don't need to use it because I read the series so many times.
[2] I look at it sometimes, but not very often.
[3] I like to use it for the threads because I forget certain terms or meanings.
[4] I love it and use it often, I even printed it out!

Re: The Dictionary of All Symphony of Ages Knowledge!
Your welcome shesallthat! ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
I've been slacking big time on The Ven Polypheme Dictionary... ugh. ![Embarrassed [:$]](/emoticons/emotion-10.gif)
Its interesting though. It all started with the word: Zephyr. I was re-reading Prophecy (I think) when I shall the word, (and well you all know that whenever you re-read something you see or pick-out things that you have never noticed before) I immediately wrote it down on a piece of paper and what it meant (The Last Dhracian Sage) because I thought it was a vital piece of "little," information I picked-up and wanted to remember it. Than (yes, it was late at night, ugh) after reading a bit more I suddenly decided that, "Hey! Why not make a guide?! Or, better yet, a Dictionary? So I can "discover," and put-in all these lost words to make things easier. Than I immediately thought of The Cauldron, and got straight to work! After hours (yes, I ended up staying up past 1:00 at night!) I typed it all up and pasted it to The Cauldron and started editing it again in the morning. ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)

Re: The Dictionary of All Symphony of Ages Knowledge!
A REMINDER:
Please, it is your decision to view my Dictionary of All Symphony of Ages Knowledge. If you have NOT read the entire series so far (Rhapsody - The Assassin King) than think twice before clicking that button. My Dictionary does contain MAJOR SPOILERS, so it is a big risk for your enjoyment of the series. I don't want to spoil it for you and even though the guide is nice for use of The Cauldron, and as a handy-dandy print out, do not sell/publish/re-create my Dictionary. If you wish to make your own, go ahead and do so. But don't claim this as your own, it doesn't entirely belong to me either, but the credit really goes to Elizabeth Haydon and her wonderful publishing company of Tor Fantasy. She is the one who took the effort to write this series, so think first before printing. If you see any copies of my Dictionary on the web, report it to me immediately. If you threaten or violate my disclaimer I posted in the Dictionary in ANY way, I will take the guide down or report you to the mods ASAP!
Also, if Elizabeth Haydon ask me to take the Dictionary off, I will do so when I can. Please keep all I said in mind for my benefit and especially yours.
Thank you all for you understanding.
-Mri Niun.

Re: The Dictionary of All Symphony of Ages Knowledge!
![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif) Nice job! Must be interesting to work on, if tedious to edit. Sure is interesting to read... I think I'm on 'J'. ***** #2 (but only because whenever I'm on the computer I tend to write more than read. I'd probably use it more if I printed it, but I don't because it's 47 word pages long o.o) The only things that bothered me about it that you haven't fixed (haha I caught the 'Meridian' thing too but you fixed it already) is the consistent capitalization of 'D' in F'dor and the lack of details on Grunthor (and Jo, too, I guess, though especially Grunthor) when Achmed and Rhapsody have half a page to themselves. And perhaps mention that Ysk is in Bolgish, and that Achmed won it in a dice roll (did he? I seem to think that he did but my memory is awful). That's very critical of me, however. ![Embarrassed [:$]](/emoticons/emotion-10.gif) I'm not trying to be mean or the F'dor of all editing; I just tend to judge things harshly. ^^' Anyways, that's my 'tactical appraisal'. I might notice some more things when I read the rest of it... for now I'll shut it.

Re: The Dictionary of All Symphony of Ages Knowledge!
Don't be too hard on yourself, in fact I have been slacking on the Dictionary (actually its Mri Niun being lazy ) and is currently a bit occupied with other things. I really do appreciate though that you looked it over and pointed out the errors (like I keep saying, I know it contains a LOT! and is far from finished) so I really do enjoy getting corrections. So far the only one that has been active with helping me correct the Dictionary is madhatter, which I applaud, because without her help I probably wouldn’t had caught a lot of the errors that I made with the Dictionary already.
The only problem with Grunthor is that there really ISN'T too much information on him (except him being half Benegard/Firbolg, a Sergeant Major, a partner to Achmed, loves collecting weapons, is the Child of Earth and adores singing bawdy Bolg Cadences) we don‘t know too much about his past or his personal life, except that he liked to go to Madame Parri's Pleasure Palace and lost his troops in a great accident. But I should add in that he helped Achmed the Snake rebuild Ylorc and established the military system there (if I‘ am mistaken, correct me). Although I said to myself many times while re-looking over the information on Achmed/Rhapsody that I should at least give Grunthor more credit, as well as the F'dor errors, but really haven't gotten off my butt to fix them (anybody who pressures me into correcting something deserves praise! ).
And of course, lots of things come from the book itself, while others I've read and typed a definition off the top of my head. Its hard re-looking up certain things to get all the "juice," squeezed out about that particular person/place/thing. I would probably have to re-read the series to get in more little details that I had skipped over the first pass. There is also a little thing that I kept on thinking about adding in but kept on dropping, and that would be different names for the stages Entudenin which are named differently in Destiny than in Requiem for the Sun, I thought at first that it would be silly to add in these two different names for these different stages but if anybody wants me to add them in, just say so and I will do so. ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)
- If you want to help by providing information for me (such as Grunthor or Jo) make sure to give me the page number and the book you got it from and ill go from there.

Re: The Dictionary of All Symphony of Ages Knowledge!
Khaibit, concerning "Ysk": he didn't win that name in a dice game. Achmed loathes any game of chance and the game of dice in particular, because I believe his mother was won by a Bolg in a dice game. I know exactly where it is in Requiem...I'll find a more exact quotation for you.
And thank you, Mri Niun, for the credit, and you're welcome for all the help.
You kow what you can do for things that have more than one name like Entudenin: you can put all those names under one, sort of like an "also known as." And under Fountain Rock (or whatever else it's called), you could put "see Entudenin."

Re: The Dictionary of All Symphony of Ages Knowledge!
Okay, here it is:
"Achmed had long despised cards and other games of chance.
Part of the reason might have been that long ago, in the old world, that other life, his true name had been won in a game of cards from the Bolg of Serendair and given by the winner, under duress, to the demon that was his enemy.
Part of the reason might have also been that his Dhracian mother was selected for capture by the Bolg with a toss of the bones.
But whatever the reason, what he detested most about gamesplaying was the uncertainty of it."
