Shadowqueen wrote:First off congratulations to resimars417 for completing the Wayfarer Redemption series. I got as far Starman and I found getting to the end of that was a struggle because I just hated Axis so much as a character. No offence to anybody who loves the books but I just wanted to strangle him for leading Faraday on and then basically falling for another woman in the end.
Hey, no offence taken. I loved the first three books of that series and I hated Axis every minute. That was what was fun about reading it, finding out more reasons to hate Axis. Right now I'm reading The Postman by Robert Brin?. It's pretty good so far, but I'm glad that's it's only 300 pages.

I'm re-reading a fantasy trilogy that I love called The Riddle-Master Trilogy, by Patricia McKillip. I've always been surprised how no one talks about it at all. The publishers re-released it into circulation a while back. It was written approximately forty years ago. The three books were individually titled: The Riddle-Master of Hed, Heir of Sea and Fire, and Harpist in the Wind, but when they put it back into print, they just releases as one big volume, like the Lord of the Rings is. The books are one twisting riddle, so they are aptly titled. Has anyone heard of them or read them, too?

I haven't heard of it, MH, but I'll have to pick it up from somewhere. You and I seem to share similar tastes, so I'd like to read it.
Aside from textbooks ( ), I about to start reading a book based on something my English teacher gave to us. It's called The Neon Bible, by John Kennedy Toole. He wrote one other book that the librarian said was excellent, called A Confederacy of Dunces (which the author won a Pulitzer Prize for), that I would also like to read.
The author is deceased now. He apparently commited suicide. He wrote The Neon Bible when he was 16 for a literary contest. It was found after his death and, after a legal battle among his heirs, it was released for publication. I'll let you all know how it is.

I've started on a Paulo Coelho kick, and I have to say that I'm really enjoying his work. Before Harry Potter came out, I finished The Alchemist and started on The Devil and Miss Prym. Now that good old Harry is concluded, I picked it up again and am half-way through...so far, so good!

I found this really cool website for those folks (like me) who are fans of The Dark Tower series by Stephen King and I thought I'd share it with y'all. I love the flash movie. The Dark Tower Official Website

At the moment I'm re-reading The Symphony of Ages by Elizabeth Haydon, Rhapsody, Child of Blood. *Wow! What a surprise?!*
Yeah, I thought I would freshen up a little bit for the next book in the series. Before I always read certain parts or sections, but now I think I just need to sit down and just read the entire thing for once. ![Stick out tongue [:P]](/emoticons/emotion-4.gif)

Right now, I'm reading four books off and on: The Assassin King on a re-read, Mr. Lincoln's Wars by Adam Braver, Burning Bright by Tracy Chevalier, and The Last Lecture, by Randy Pausch. The actual last lecture can be found here, in case you are interested.

Reading all the old posts - holy cow, Krinsel! I didn't realize you already had The Historian when I sent it to you. Hope it didn't freak you out, receiving it from me. Totally unintended, if so. I really enjoyed it, but was glad to send it somewhere else. It wasn't even around Halloween when I read it, but suddenly there were references to Dracula all over the TV. It was a little too creepy for a coincidence.

No worries, Rhonwyn, it didn't freak me out in the least. Let me take this moment to thank you for that box of goodies which you sent me, in case I didn't email a thank you when I got them (things get crazy around here - alot! lol).
Actually, I hadn't finished The Historian the first time around. I sent it to Val, who then sent it to Winebrat who then sent it back to me, before I got a chance to read it myself. I can't resist when I go to my favorite store and I can get new hardcover book releases for less than half the publisher's price. If I see a book that looks interesting to me, or for someone else's tastes, and I have a few extra dollars, I'll usually pick it up. They make great gifts!![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)

Oh, I don't know whether to put this here or in the Anti-Rants thread because I have hit the jackpot this time... First of all, I went to the Post Office yesterday and got a nice package with I Am Legend in it (Thanks K). Then I went to help my mom close up her little stall at a flea market she and her partner ran on weekends. The sold all kinds of neat stuff like wind chimes, garden plaques, garden flags, incense and burners, oil burners and oil, and candle holders. My mom also sold (and sometimes traded) books on the side. Since they were closing, she gave me a couple of oil burners, chimes, and candle holders, plus she let me go through the books, all of them and there were over 700. ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) I got several Tom Clancey, a couple of Robin Cook, Elie Wiesel, Toni Morrison, and many more. A lot of the books I got were for the girls, too. We got 86 books in total. I even got one of her book shelves, so the books have a home. ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif) The rest of the books she gave away. *Wonders how many books she can read in a week*

Good luck to your mom, Val...that sounded like a really cozy little shop. I love going to the Home Depot or Lowe's garden centers and spend a few hours browsing the aisles. When my little ones go with me, they like to explore "the jungle" .
My oldest daughter has read Eli Weisel's Night many times. I don't want to say "enjoy", but it is a very good read.
