Zachary Quinto, Sylar from Heroes, has signed to play Spock. No word on Kirk yet. The rumors of Matt Damon playing Kirk are just rumors so far.
I wonder if the MMO will come out about that time also.

OMG, the Blade Runner DVD is finally coming out. *SIA rejoices* I have been waiting for the Blade Runner Special Edition DVDs FOREVER.
And what?!? Sylar is becoming Spock?!? That’s just not right!!! Adrian Brody would have been the perfect Spock. And I think Matt Damon would make an awful Kirk.
IMO remaking the original Star Trek is sacrilege. Captain James Tiberius Kirk is just like Highlander… in the end there can be only one. And that one is William Shatner!!!

The Blade Runner Special Edition is nto the Director's Cut, is it? The first time I saw Blade Runner, it was the director's cut, and Ridley Scott had deleted the narration. Well, needless to say, I was very confused and didn't enjoy as much. Then, I saw the original and finally experienced the greatness of Blade Runner.
But I concur, SIA. Blasphemy! For young Kirk, they should pick...William Shatner! Who cares if he's 80? :D

So, in celebration of the imminent Star Trek movie extravaganza, who would you
pick for Captain Kirk? What about Scotty or Bones? Fill us in on all
your character/star picks. Who knows? Maybe the casting people will see
it. (Yeah, I realize that is the longest stretch imaginable, but we can
dream, right?) I will have to give it some thought, myself.
Also, nobody jump on me or anything but...*whispers* I have never actually seen and Bladerunner.

THAT is a shame. You really should see it.

Oh come on now, a lot of people said the same thing about BSG and look what happened to that. (This coming from probably the only person on the boards who has been a fan since the original series aired in the 60's). Besides I don't think anyone has suggested it was a remake of the original series. No official word has come out about the contents of the script, however, most people think this is a prequel to the original Star Trek TV series (In between Star Trek: Enterprise and Star Trek: The Original Series). Since Leonard Nimoy has also signed to play Spock in the same movie, I'm guessing it will be some kind of flashback of older Spock remembering his time at Starfleet Academy and perhaps on earlier ships like USS Farragut.
Also Zachary Quinto actually LOOKS a lot like a young Leonard Nimoy.
Is remaking The Bionic Woman, Jekyll, Doctor Who, and Flash Gordon (for like the 4th time) sacrilege too? It seems like remaking old series is all the rage this year. My prediction: Some will be good, other's wont.

Ah yes… but all those series mentioned lack one very vital ingredient… the most essential ingredient… the Shatner!!! I feel sorry for the actor who has to try and fill his shoes. Picard, Sisko, Janeway, Archer… all have tried to carry a Star Trek franchise into the new millennium and all have failed (not really). So the person who has to be the new James Tiberius Kirk is doomed to failure from the start (not really).
My favorite Star Trek Captains in order: Sulu (from Undiscovered Country), Riker (from SNG finale), Kirk, Picard, Janeway, and finally Sisko (is pretending Archer never happened).

Actually, the Special Edition is going to have all three versions: the original theatrical release, the re-realeased diretor's cut, and the final cut. ![Big Smile [:D]](/emoticons/emotion-2.gif)

I’ve only ever seen the Director’s Cut of Blade Runner, and I liked it. I thought some of the scenes were REALLY tacky, but I absolutely LOVED the atmosphere of the film. Everything just looked so cool and real, a film like that couldn’t be made nowadays, you couldn’t get that tangible grittiness with all the CG special effects they currently use.
And the Blade Runner “point and click” adventure game for the PC was my favorite computer game of all-time. It was just so much fun, had a great epic storyline with five different endings depending on whom you killed and whom you didn’t. It is a "must have" game, plus using the Esper picture zooming machine in that game is one of the coolest things ever.

Firstly, I have never heard someone say, “I concur…” when it didn’t involve launching nuclear missiles (like how the XO and Captain do it in Crimson Tide). Actually, I think Krinsel and Duchess might have used that phrase once or twice, so never mind.
Second, LOL. Have you ever seen that Direct TV commercial in which William Shatner tries to reinsert his present day self into a scene from the orginal Star Trek II movie? And how we’re not supposed to notice that he looks considerably older now? And remember how creepy the young (CG enhanced) Professor Xavier looked in X-Men 3: X-Men United? Perhaps recasting Kirk isn't such a bad idea after all.

:) Yeah, re-casting 'the Shatner' would be over the top. And, off-topic: 'concur' is an awesome word, and Crimson Tide is an awesome movie. On-topic: I like pretending that Sisko never happened either. ;) I'll probably see this new Star Trek; I just don't know how much I'm gonna like it. The Next Generation is my favorite, then the Original. Instead of doing a movie about pre-Original series, they should do one about....Riker! Or maybe not. Personally I think that the franchise is taking it too far. All the Star Trek shows have ended, and all the movies have reached an ending point as well. It was tied up with Nemesis, I thought. So, I'll just wait and see. That's the best thing to do.

Well, I can't wait. I actually did not care for William Shatner, in the original series, anyway. He. Annoys. The crap. Out of. Me. I just wanted him to hurry up and speak for Pete's Sake! It didn't bug me as much in the movies, which I loved. Spock, Bones and Scotty were all fabulous. So was the black lady whose name I cannot remember. At any rate, I am pretty pumped about it. Star Trek: Next Generation was my favorite. Picard rocks!

Yeah but I look back at TNG now and, to me at least, they dont hold up as well over time as the original series (TOS) does. I actually liked Enterprise (even the theme song grew on me after a while), especially the ones that linked with other parts of the Star Trek timeline. In A Mirror, Darkly was freaking awesome tieing Mirror, Mirror and The Tholian Web from TOS to Enterprise (Arena too). So was the series of episodes with Brent Spiner as Khan's "dad." Now I DID think that the episode where they had to genetically alter the Klingons so that their forehead ridges would go away for a generation or two was a little over the line. But it was still fun as a set up for why they didn't have them in TOS.
What I didn't like was DS9 and Voyager. Although I'm TiVoing Voyager (on Spike) and Enterprise (on SciFi) and watching them over now.

The rumor mill over the years says that those "dramatic pauses" were because he was waiting for the cue cards to turn over. He couldn't remember his lines.
P.S. Nichelle Nichols played Uhura.

I have to disagree with the beginning of that statement. Every single Star Trek series is currently in syndication and doing quite well for the networks that are playing them. In fact SciFi is now re-playing Enterprise from the beginning after they had already played the entire series once. Spike is playing TNG, DS9 and Voyager (TOS too I think). G4 is playing different versions of TOS (Normal and their v2.0 with commentary) So there's still a big demand for shows in the Star Trek universe.
As for recasting William Shatner as Kirk, I think that would be fine if they were doing "Star Trek: Retirement Home", but they're not. They are doing "Start Trek: The Acedemy Days" where the original crew are college age people.
I like the reinventing that Hollywood has been doing to classic shows lately. So if they get a really good, young cast, they could take over the franchise and give us another 40 years of Trek. Which I think would be great.

At that rate, we'll be taking off into space with the "real" Enterprise when the series has finally run its course! lol
Hmmm...I don't think I have ever "concurred" around the Cauldron, SIA, though I tend to agree quite often. ![Wink [;)]](/emoticons/emotion-5.gif)
Mike Meyers could probably do a good Scotty..."young" him up a bit and let him recycle his Wayne's World look and persona, to contrast him to his "older" self. The kid, Michael Fishman, from Roseanne, would probably have made a good, young Spock. Didn't the "sisters" call him that a few times on the show?
Actually, I've never minded William Shatner, he's always been Captain Kirk to me, but I never really got into the Star Trek spin-offs, though I did like the movies made with the original casts. When I was a young kid, I really wanted a Star Fleet uniform with the black tights and boots...I thought it looked really cool, never got one, though. ![Sad [:(]](/emoticons/emotion-6.gif)

I think it was the other way around. Gene Roddenberry named Star Trek's ship after the carrier. The current Enterprise was built in 1959-1960 and is famous for being the first nuclear aircraft carrier. It is also the eighth US ship to be named Enterprise and there were a lot of British ships with the name also. Think of the opening title sequence in Star Trek: Enterprise where they show a drawing of the old wood sailing vessel HMS Enterprise. The WWII Enterprise CV-6 was the most decorated US ship during WWII.
The original Star Trek series came out in 1966.
I remember reading "The Making of Star Trek" back in the 70's and seeing a chart comparing the size of the carrier to the starship and they were about the same size. About that time Gene Roddenberry gave a talk at the local college and my dad took me to it. I must have been about 12 year old at the time.
Yes, the Enterprise was just returning from a deployment on Sept 11th and turned around to head for Afganistan.
