Vote for your all-time favorite sci-fi/fantasy authors...

I found this poll on the Web where you can vote for your five favorite sci-fi/fantasy authors.  If you are interested in voting, the site is here

"All that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream."
    ~Edgar Allan Poe
"Darest thou now O Soul, Walk out with me toward the unknown region, Where neither ground is for feet Nor any path to follow."
    ~Walt Whitman
    ~Avatar made by Me, madhatter.

Nice! I added my vote to the end.

WTG Val.  Now (as of your post) Elizabeth Haydon has a grand total of one vote.  LOL.

I copy and pasted the entire page into MS Word and used the "Find Next" feature to search for the name Haydon and yours was the only one that popped up.  LOL.

My favorite author Maggie Furey got 0 votes and IMO the best fantasy writer of all-time George R. R. Martin only got 8 votes (mostly seconds).

And damn, Jennifer Fallon is popular.  LOL.

Re: Vote for your all-time favorite sci-fi/fantasy authors...

SIA, I heard about this poll on Jennifer Fallon's blog. She said that there were hardly any women authors up there, none from Australia, and asked all her readers to vote for Australian authors. But I only read books by her and Sara Douglass, and SD is not one of my favorite authors. I voted for Jennifer Fallon, EH, J.R.R. himself, Ursula K. LeGuin, and Patricia A. McKillip. I was thinking "I don't see any Elizabeth Haydon, that can't be!" :) I did my duty, and spread the word here so Elizabeth can get her fair share of votes. So, vote for Elizabeth Haydon! (And Jennifer Fallon, too, if you don't mind...she writes great books.)
P.S. I'm madhatter on that site, too.

I voted again...I think you can vote as many times as you want. So maybe we can get a lot more votes for Elizabeth.

I'm surprised by a lot of those results - especially with George Orwell, Jules Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Marion Zimmer Bradley, and Richard Matheson (for Pete's sake - the guy wrote many of the Twilight Zone episodes!) around or beyond the #50 placement!!!

Terry Pratchett #1?  Methinks a bunch of the TP fans made a massive voting call to put him at the top of the list! lol

He he, I doubt it; he's sold over 45 million books worldwide - he's pretty popular. Wink [;)] I'm not suprised he's number 1, his books have broader appeal than many of the other authors listed. I wouldn't have included J.K.Rowling to be honest, but there you go. I'm pleased to see George Martin at number 5 and Robing Hobb at 21 though - and I am stifling my giggles at seeing Terry Goodkind at 96. Stick out tongue [:P]

Yeah, I wouldn't have put J.K. Rowling at #16. I like her books, but of all-time? No...

I agree with you on that madhatter. I can never really understand what people find so utterly amusing about thouse books. Sure, they are a good, fun read. But they just don't pack the punch as other fantasy novels do.

Yeah! C.J.Cherryh at 56! Stick out tongue [:P]

Yeah, for Ursula K. LeGuin packing a punch with #11! The woman is in her 80's and she's still writing excellent books.

But they were a lot of names up there that I was glad to see. There are a lot of authors I think deserve the recognition (no matter how small), and this is a way of getting it from their readers.
