    I just love awkward moments.

Except for the first forty pages of Rhapsody this section is probably my favorite one from the SOA books.

from Elegy for a Lost Star: Chapter 43, pg 392 [American PB] (Achmed reacting to Rhapsody)

…his brows drawing together as Rhapsody opened her shirt and positioned the baby on her (breas t).  He turned away hastily, to Rhapsody’s surprise, keeping his back to her while she nursed the baby.

“You don’t have to turn your back,” she said surprised, as she drew the swaddling blanket over the two of them.  “I’m covered now, and I apologize if it bothered you.”  She saw him shrug, but he did not turn back to face her.  “After all... There’s not a shred of modesty left in any of us by now.”

“…Had it occurred to you that I might not want to witness you nursing another man’s child?” he asked bitterly.

The silence that answered him was heavier than the air had been.

Ooooooooo….. awkward.  Come on Rhaps, say something, you weren’t so shy in Destiny now were you?  Plus at this point they are both pondering in the back of their minds that they are going to run out of oxygen and die, so I’m thinking this would be a good time to bare their souls to one another.  And except for that time in Destiny (which I tried to locate by skimming, but failed), I think this is the closet that Achmed has come to expressing his true feelings to her.

Although, I guess it must be hard on the dude.  I bet every atom in his Dhracian body is just dying to express his love for Rhapsody, but he just can’t allow himself to do so.  Ah, the price of being cool can be so cruel sometimes.

Now, if I were Achmed, I would totally tell Rhapsody that I loved her.  In fact, what I would do exactly is go to the brow of the The Great Moot (with Rhapsody in tow), blow Gwylliam’s horn.  And when all the surviving Cymerian generations come back to the Great Bowl I would hold up Rhapsody (like Mufasa holding up Simba) and proclaim with a triumphant heartfelt shout, “I LOVE THIS WOMAN!!!”   And then I would probably run away and hide for about a millennia or two.

    NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

haha j/k  Well, you said it yourself...she is nursing ANOTHER MAN'S CHILD!  And, oh yeah, said man is her husband!  Achmed knows that, (remember, he's "early"...not "a lit'le late" Destiny, 820) and he's a patient man (except when it comes to the Lightcatcher...for women, he can wait millennia...for a wheel made of wood and glass...THAT he's impatient for *sigh*)

Don't forget:  he sees Rhapsody and Ashe as temporary (see above Destiny page reference; he and Grunthor are talking at the wedding reception)  Plus, the Three are immortal, and when Time goes on, "a thousand years pass like the blink of an eye" (totally don't remember who said it or what book, but I remember it being said).

So even if you (as Achmed Wink [;)]) proclaimed your love for Rhapsody and then went into hiding, a millennia or two isn't really that long in their Grand Scheme of Things....

(and PS  Achmed doesn't have to TRY to be cool....he just IS)

Sam, you sound exactly like me. Although, I think that Rhaps should stay with Ashe.

Hehehe! This is me being really entertained by that! Ok!

Like, seriously, I love that scene. It's so awkward yet sweet, you know? One of those ones that make you want to shake both of them by their shoulders and yell at them to please open their eyes and at least consider that maybe there's some chemistry going on or something, you know? I'm not saying that Ashe and Rhapsody don't have the One True Love Soul Mates thing going one, cause they totally do! But, like, she obviously feels just a little bitty something for Achmed!

If that made any sense at all, which I kind of think it didn't. :p

You know maybe its that whole brother and sister sort of love thing. I have a friend who is like one of my best friends EVER, and I consider him like a brother, I feel that sort of love for him, but not on a physical level. Although I did have acrush on him a long time ago..lol.

And yet, did you make out with him?  Wink [;)]  Okay, okay, so Rhapsody and Achmed didn't exactly "make out" but you get what I mean...

SMO, so are you saying that maybe Achmed and Rhaps have a brother/sister crush thing going on?  That makes sense...and yet it sounds so twisted.  lol

But wait, if it's "just" a crush (maybe to Rhapsody) then why did EH throw in my favorite line about Achmed's feelings for Rhapsody "one for whom he felt the damnable emotion of love, denied, confused, and forbidden as it was" (Elegy, 348)

    Translation:

damnable = Achmed's whole "love makes you weak" argument from...Destiny?  I think...

denied = he's trying to ignore it and can't...why would he ignore it?  Maybe it's causing problems because Rhapsody is already married...

confused = Achmed doesn't want to love her LIKE THAT, but he just can't help it

forbidden = again, I think it's because Rhapsody is married and about to have another man's baby...

Achmed's a patient man. Besides he already mentioned in... Destiny (I think) that she would be his with time. Eventually Ashe would want to go into full dragon form and he would be there waiting when it happened.

I have a a different idea. WHAT IF... Achmed kind of had some sort of case like Rhapsody, where he swore to some other woman that he 'would love no one else until the end of time', and that is why it's 'forbidden'? Either that or it has something to do with him being the slave of the demon at one point.

And then we women wonder why guys can't figure us out or why they act all Music [8]awkwardMusic [8]

(yes, that's me singing the word "awk-ward"; the first syllable being on a higher pitch and then dropping a couple of notes lower for the second...in that annoying sing-songy voice...you know what I'm sayin)

HA!  Wink [;)]  But it is true that women react in a variety of ways, as do men (they just don't vary...AS MUCH).  And at least men know what they want...most of the time (as opposed to women who don't know what they want ANY of the time, and even if they think they do...they don't) and THAT reminds me of a lame joke (which I will go post in the appropriate thread)

What were we talking about again?  Oh yeah!  Awkward moments...well, okay, here's a good example of men reacting as differently.

Ashe was just shocked beyond belief (and then aroused) when Rhapsody reached into his cloak and grabbed him.

*ASSUMING* that she got close enough to Achmed to do the same thing, do you think the former Brother would also be aroused?  Or would he just break her wrist and THEN slit her throat?

    OR

What if the shoe were on the other foot in Elegy, and Rhapsody was trapped somewhere with Ashe while nursing Achmed's baby?  Apologies to any Ashe-fans who just went into anaphylactic shock....

While the Ashe fans will likely survive this statement, I doubt the object of their fascination could have handled the situation so well.  The mere thought of Rhapsody "mating" with Achmed is enough to make Ashe nauseous - actual prove of such an occurrence might actually kill him.

Re: I just love awkward moments.

As an avid Ashe-ite (Is it Ashe-ite? I forget. Maybe that's not good proof of my devotion to the man...) I think that Ashe would literally cark it if he was forced to spend time alone with Rhapsody AND her half-Achmed son (Seeing as though babies are *relatively* half of either parent).

BUT come to think of it...

Wait, I don't know if this is really relevant...

BUT I'm gunna say it anyway.

If the baby would be half Rhapsody and half Achmed, would the baby be a coin?

    ...

Please PM me if you don't get it... I'll understand... it was a pretty lame joke...
